Rush Reach New Heights With Win Over Swarm

Saturday, March 27, 2010
Edmonton, Alberta
Attendance: 6,200

The Minnesota Swarm continued their Alberta Clipper road trip in Edmonton on Saturday night.  After a successful first act in Calgary the night before, the second act did not go quite as well as the Rush kept one step ahead of the Swarm with a 16-14 victory at Rexall Place.

The win for Edmonton gives them a franchise record seven wins in a season and gets them within one win or a Colorado Mammoth loss away from their first ever entrance into the NLL playoffs.  The Swarm will need to regroup to split the season series next weekend as they host the Rush at The Hive next Saturday night.

The Rush used a six goal run in the first quarter that chased Friday night's star Nick Patterson and a deficit that the Swarm could not quite comeback from.  The Swarm got within two goals a few times in the second half including the end of the game but the Rush were always able to answer sufficiently.  The Rush especially controlled the loose ball chase with Brodie Merrill scooping up seventeen and Ian Hawksbee twelve.  Those extra possessions were just enough for the Rush.

Aaron Wilson led the Swarm with three goals and six assists with his first point of the night giving him 100 points for this career.  Wilson scored 100 points in 21 Swarm games, the fastest to 100 in Swarm history.  Callum Crawford had three goals and four assists.  Sean Pollock had three goals and an assist.  Pollock's three goals tonight tied Ryan Ward for the all-time lead in Swarm history with 114.   Zack Greer notched his first ever NLL hat tirck and scored his first goal since February 5.  Kevin Crowell came into the game in relief of Patterson in the first quarter and saved 37 of 47 shots. Noah Talbot played in his now team record 52nd consecutive game breaking the record of 51 held by Jon Sullivan.

Ward, in his first ever game against the Swarm, led the Rush with two goals and five assists earning game MVP honors.  Former Swarm Dean Hill had a very good night with three goals and two assists and former Swarm Matt Disher won his seventh game of the year saving 44 on 58 shots.  The win is the Rush's first ever against the Swarm in three all time match ups.

Edmonton hosts Washington next Friday before they come to The Hive next Saturday night and also, you know who makes his first appearance at The Hive against his former teammates since the July 2009 trade.

The Swarm can gain entrance to the 2010 NLL playoffs with a win next weekend against the Rush and a Mammoth loss.
