The Swarm split the season series with Portland
Portland clinches second place in the West and a home playoff game
The Swarm need Colorado to lose to Edmonton on Friday and they need to beat New York next Saturday to
make the playoffs. It is possible by game time next Saturday, that the Swarm will be eliminated from
playoff contention
Kevin Buchanan had his second seven point game of the season as he led the team in scoring (3g,4a)
Sean Pollock's second goal of the night was his 100th in his career
Dan Marohl reached the 400 point mark in his career when he scored his second goal at the 9:32 mark of the fourth
Kevin Croswell started in net for the second straight game but was relieved by Nick Patterson
in the second quarter
The Swarm had 89 shots but only 55 were on net
Robert Desimone of mnswarm.comprovides the following quotes:
- "The whole year is just disappointing," said Head Coach Duane Jacobs. "It's frustrating that
we can't execute a game-plan for 60 minutes. Guys seem to want to be on their own and do
their own thing and it doesn't work."
- “Unfortunately we didn’t get any goaltending and what can you do,” Jacobs said.
“It’s a big game. I wasn’t particularly happy with the guys in front of [Croswell] and
how we didn’t battle every second of every shift and that’s what you’re supposed to do
in these kinds of situations and we made a bunch of their guys look like they are all stars.”
- "The first quarter I thought offensively we had a lot of really good looks, but the same story, we can't finish,"
Jacobs said. "Guys seem to want to be on their own and do their own thing and it doesn't work."
- Portland quickly quieted the crowd though with goals from F Derek Malawsky and Morgan to put the seal the win.
“I thought maybe at 16-13, but then they turned around with two goals, story of the season,”
Jacobs said. “Breakdown, but we still can’t get the saves.”
- About the last game of the season, “We have to try and get a win, just like
you’re supposed to try and get a win every week,” Jacobs said. “Just playing for pride,
and we’ll see what kind of pride we’ve got.”
