Thanks to Tino Fera, who has been calling Coquitlam games all season, for confirming that Banks is skilled, smart, mean and plays bigger than his actual size (listed at 5-11, 190). Not even 19 yet (his birthday is Aug. 21), Banks can match up with opponents' top threats without causing ulcers for his coaches. He will also help in transition, scoring about a point per game through his junior career thus far.   The Lax Mag 08/16/24 - The Top 50 Junior A Players: 2024 Edition 3. Ty Banks Team: Coquitlam Adanacs Position: Defense YOB: 2004 College: Georgetown University NLL Draft Eligible: 2027   Coquitlam has developed some of today's top two-way talent in the NLL. Most recently that includes the likes of Challen Rogers and Reid Bowering, two former Adanac captains that are do-everything type players in both box and field lacrosse. Next up is Ty Banks. The current Coquitlam 'C' is looking to lead the Adanacs to their first Minto win since 2018, and fourth in 14 years. He shares many of the same skills both Rogers and Bowering possessed when they were in the exact same spot Banks is in now. While we said Brayden Laity was this list's best pure defender (see #7 above), Banks is the Top 50's most well rounded, not just defender, but player period. He is a loose-ball scooping and caused-turnover terror that can dictate the pace of any game while pushing or pausing Coquitlam's press. He averaged almost a goal a game during the playoffs and would have likely done the same during the regular season had he not been sidelined by an injury for most of it. At that time, Banks was an interesting up-and-comer. He had already shown he was a very good player, but he was intriguing because of the potential he had flashed. Since then, Banks has established himself among the elite prospects, one of the handful of guys who are legitimate contenders to be among the first five players picked in this loaded draft, which looks like it could be one of the best ever. He was instrumental in the Adanacs Minto championship last year as the team captain and leader of an excellent defense.   Lacrosse Culture Daily: Ten Players to Watch at the 2025 Minto Cup Ty Banks - Coquitlam Adanacs One of the core pieces on this Adanac team from Coquitlam, who else would you want as your captain? Probably the most physically gifted defender in this tournament, Banks punishes opponents both on the ball and off the ball through the middle. He's also a guy that will provide a lot of support on loose balls and makes everyone have to be aware when he's on the floor. The ability to time slides, provide help when necessary and react to breakdowns are huge portions to why he carries so much value. Ty Banks Team: Coquitlam Adanacs Position: Defense College: Georgetown University NLL Draft Eligible: 2027 The only thing keeping us from putting Ty Banks #1 is his lack of game action through most of the regular season. He is a defensive dominator, an own-end leader, and pound-for-pound the best D-first player in the country. From shutting down the opposition to kick starting Coquitlam's dangerous offensive press, no defensemen in the country does as much and impacts a game to the degree that Banks does. He helped quiet an Orangeville offense in last year's Minto final, one that had been scoring at a record-setting rate earlier in the tournament. 2025 Peterborugh Lakers OJLL Father Jason Clark played in the NLL from 2000 to 2009   IL Indoor 08/09/23 - 10 Intriguing Prospects for 2027 NLL Draft: Deere, Bucktooth and a Star From Czech Republic DJ Clark RF, Peterborough Jr A & Denver Clark didn't attract the attention that the OJLL's leading scorers did this year, but at 5 points per game he was on pace to be the fifth player in the league to hit the 100 mark; and he played for a Lakers team that struggled to score, putting up 108 fewer goals than Orangeville (where two of the four 100-point scorers play). The supremely athletic righty has been among the elite '04 born players all the way up through minor lacrosse and his production hasn't slowed at the Jr A level. Clark has also fit right in with the Sr A Lakers when called up to the parent club, putting up six goals and six assists in four games. He is adept as a facilitator, with 98 combined assists over the last two summers, and has posted hat tricks in about a third of his Jr A games.   The Lax Mag 08/16/24 - The Top 50 Junior A Players: 2024 Edition 36. Daniel Clark Team: Peterborough Lakers Position: Forward YOB: 2004 College: University of Denver NLL Draft Eligible: 2027   Coming off his most productive and impressive season yet, Daniel Clark looked confident, creative and composed (did you see him sink that controversial OT ender versus Six Nations in the playoffs?) while leading the Lakers attack. A sophomore middie at DU last year, Clark was already putting in quality minutes for the Pioneers, standing out statistically in the school's upset win over Cornell early in the season (1G, 2A). Son of former NLLer Jason Clark, he and Peterborough teammate Nicholas Roode (who just missed this year's 50) were one of this past season's most effective offensive duos, the pair back for one my year in 2025. In fact, Peterborough's first five forwards next season, a group that also includes Colby Wood (up for OJLL ROTY) Matthew Drimmie (another outstanding 2024 rook) and Nate Sage (yup, another rookie, who saw his stock soar in the playoffs) in addition to Clark and Roode, should be one of the top O units in Ontario a year from now. Honestly, all of them could crash the 50 in 2025. You've been warned.   IL Indoor 02/20/25 - 10 Intriguing 2027 NLL Draft Prospects DJ Clark, RF, Ptbo Jr A & Denver We could look at stats and talk about his skill set, but the following should give you a pretty good idea of the impact that DJ Clark can have on a team. Before he returned from Lawrenceville prep school for the summer of 2023, the Lakers were 0-5. After his return, they went 4-11. That is a substantial improvement…but hang on. In 2024, the Lakers went 0-4 before he returned from his first year at Denver. After his return, they were 11-5. With an extra win thrown in from the Toronto Beaches debacle, Peterborough was 12-8, finished second in the OJLL and won a playoff series. Daniel Clark Team: Peterborough Lakers Position: Forward College: University of Denver NLL Draft Eligible: 2027 Although you won't find his name right at the top of the OJLL's scoring charts due to his DU commitments keeping him away early on, Daniel Clark still had the fifth highest PTS/GP in the province, a game-day average that would have easily got the Peterborough point producer to over 100 on the year. In fact, he was one of only six players in the country with a PTS avg. of over five. Clark would go on to lead the Lakers in offensive playoff production, in on (either a goal or assist) 55% of the Lakers postseason goals. Boring, ordinary and average are words that don't exist in Trey Deere's world. No matter the on-floor situation, Deere is capable of throwing down a goal that will completely deflate the opposition, the other team wondering if their coach will be pissed if they ask for his autograph after the game. His movement is unmatched, his baiting skills are Jedi level, and his ability to turn a nothing shift into some last-second crazy shit that goes viral before the game ends is what makes Trey Deere junior lacrosse's most electric goal scorer going. The kid scores quantity too, few anywhere in the country coming close to the stats he's piled up since arriving in Orangeville.   IL Indoor 02/20/25 - 10 Intriguing 2027 NLL Draft Prospects Trey Deere, LF, Orangeville Jr A & Syracuse A year-and-a-half ago, Deere appeared in my 2027 intriguing prospects list as he was wrapping up a 69-point OJLL season in which he made more than his fair share of mesmerizing plays. Since then, he has: scored 46 goals and 96 points in the 2024 OJLL regular season; added 63 points in 13 playoff games to help the Northmen reach the Minto Cup; and played four games for the Haudenosaunee at the box worlds. Deere continues on the path to being a high pick in his entry draft, and one of the most exciting prospects to watch play.   Lacrosse Culture Daily: Ten Players to Watch at the 2025 Minto Cup Trey Deere - Orangeville Northmen He can be a bit up and down but man when he's on Deere can take over a game in a hurry. Dillon was #1 on the A's in goals (37), assists (36), points (73), points per game (4.3), power-play goals (8), short-handed goals (2), game-winning goals (4) and shots (162) too. Ever after high-profile reinforcements arrived later in the year, Dillon did not disappear, but simply continued to produce at a hellaciously high rate. He's a gifted goal scorer but also a consistent playmaker who will be competing in his second straight Minto after just his first two Junior A seasons.   08/16/25 The Lax Mag - The Top 50 Junior A Players: 2025 Edition 7. Jaxon Dillon Team: Coquitlam Adanacs Position: Forward College: St. Bonaventure NLL Draft Eligible: 2027 Over the past two seasons, there may be no more consistent a goal scorer in Canada than Coquitlam's Jaxon Dillon, who excels no matter who else is in the Adanacs' lineup. When names are still MIA early in the year, Dillon produces. When everyone's back and new bodies are added (or re-added), he still stacks the stats. In fact, Dillon elevated his game even further during the BCJALL playoffs, leading the province by a mile in point production and owning one of the best PTS/GP in the playoffs across the country. During 2024's Minto final, Dillon scored 14 times in the team's first four games and outperformed our #1 from last year, Joey Spallina, when it mattered most. Firth is the only one to do it at ages 18 and 19. Even Jeff Teat, who put up seasons of 145/135/112, didn't start scoring 100-plus until he was 19. So yes, Firth matched a feat accomplished by Colin Doyle, Shawn Evans and Dhane Smith but did it at a younger age. I'm not saying four years ahead of his draft that Firth is better than those luminaries or that he will be better in the NLL. I am saying that he has shown he can produce consistently at the highest levels of the game for his age group, which bodes well as he steps up to senior and professional lacrosse.   The Lax Mag 08/16/24 - The Top 50 Junior A Players: 2024 Edition 2. Willem Firth Team: Toronto Beaches Position: Forward YOB: 2004 College: Cornell University NLL Draft Eligible: 2027   Ask AI to combine Jeff Teat with the Terminator, and ifirth exudes on every shift is absolutely unreal. Nothing except for the four jersey-matchiloor with appears to exist in his world at that moment. Not the hot and bothered fans in the sweat-soaked stands, not the opposition's coach screaming like an unhinged lunatic (it's the OJLL after all), and while the desperate defenders slashing him relentlessly are registering on his radar, they're not much more than an obstacle he's about to obliterate. Firth plays with extreme precision, offensive perfection, and is unsatisfied with anything less. We could have copy and pasted his preposterous point totals here, but his game goes well beyond a simple stat line, no matter how monstrous it is (or OLA officially it was in Firth's case this year). He'll be back (said in Schwarzenegger speak), and everyone is probably pretty much screwed in 2025.   IL Indoor 02/20/25 - 10 Intriguing 2027 NLL Draft Prospects Willem Firth, LF, Toronto Jr A & Cornell Firth is on an historic scoring run in Jr A lacrosse. Last season, he and Finn Thomson (who appeared in the 2026 prospects story) became the 3rd and 4th OJLL players to produce three straight 100-point seasons. In an odd coincidence, Thomson and Firth both totaled 359 points over those three years. Firth led the league with 141 points last year, when you include the 68 the OJLL stripped from him as part of the Beaches sanctions. He has a shot at matching Jeff Teat's total for his last three years of Jr; to get to 393 for his final three years, Firth would need another 140 this season, of which he has proven he is capable. That is truly elite company. Firth is simply a special player.   08/16/25 The Lax Mag - The Top 50 Junior A Players: 2025 Edition 2. An MVP in 2022, an MOP last year and again this year, Firth's Junior A resume reads like a future hall of famer in literally every lacrosse hall of fame every invented. They still have goalie Evan Constantopoulos for another year (he just missed today's list), have emerging young talent like Thomas Bagnell (UMass), Jameson Steele (High Point), Finn Morgan (Lawrenceville) and others for many summers still, and one more year from our 44th ranked player, Josh Ford too. Ford, who most would likely agree was Oakville's MVP this year, is also a finalist for the OJLL's Outstanding Defensive Player Award. He's a super-athletic, two-way defender that is also pretty dependable at the dot too.   08/16/25 The Lax Mag - The Top 50 Junior A Players: 2025 Edition 22. Josh Ford Team: St. Catharines Athletics Position: Defense College: University of Michigan NLL Draft Eligible: 2027 Appearing on the Top 50 for a second straight summer, Josh Ford jumped 22 spots after a really impressive year with the Athletics - St. Catharines trading for the Michigan middie prior to the start of the 2025 season. Ford is big (6'3", 195lbs), athletic, defensively dynamic, and always a threat in transition. A DPOTY finalist last year, this year the league voted Ford their top two-way player, the Oakville native almost quadrupling his goal total playing for the NLL's first-ever TPOTY in Steve Toll this summer in St. Kitts. 2025 Kitchener-Waterloo Lacrosse Club OJLL Won Gold Medal for Canada at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship   11 Players to Watch in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League Kitchener-Waterloo: Max Frattaroli KW took a step up last year, when they improved from 2023's three wins to a 7-13 record. They are hoping to continue to ascend this summer. To do so, they will need to step up their scoring pace, which has improved from 2024's 8.2 goals per game to an even 9 per game through five games so far this year. Frattaroli is tied for the team scoring lead with 16 points (Cal Brennan has 8 goals and 8 assists). One of the positives for KW is that Frattaroli and 2022 third overall OJLL draft pick Chris Rathwell both have another year of junior to build both individually and as a team. They were the top two scorers for KW last year, Rathwell putting up 72 points and Frattaroli 70. Neither is on pace to match their production from last season yet. 2025 Saskatchewan SWAT RMJALL   5 Players to Watch in the Rocky Mountain Jr A Lacrosse League Saskatchewan SWAT: Caleb Hensley Surely you've heard of the box lacrosse hotbed of McKinney, Texas. Okay, me neither. From downtown Dallas, you head north northeast up Highway 75 through Plano. In a little under an hour, you'll get to McKinney, where the landscape starts to shift from urban to rural. Lacrosse folks may not know the town yet, but Caleb Hensley is in the process of putting McKinney on the map. Coach Dylan Chand calls Hensley a horse and it's not hard to see why when you check out the highlights of the 20-year-old's first game in the RMLL. His three transition goals come at the 16-second, 1:10 and 2:37 marks of the highlight pack below. As a leader in both our U18 Boys   IL Indoor 02/20/25 - 10 Intriguing 2027 NLL Draft Prospects Orlando Kernaghan, RT/F, Delta Jr A Kernaghan is a wild card. His junior club is Sturt. If that doesn't sound familiar, it's because Sturt is in South Australia, near Adelaide, and not a hotbed of the sport. Kernaghan will get plenty more attention this summer, though, when he suits up for the Delta Islanders in the BCJALL. He played well for Australia at the 2023 World Juniors, then exploded at the 2024 tournament, where he was named the transition player on the IIJL All-World Team. Lucas Littlejohn Team: Whitby Warriors Position: Forward YOB: 2004 College: University of Richmond NLL Draft Eligible: 2027   The Whitby Warriors mighta missed the playoffs, but the team's leading point producer and penalty minute leader (such Shawn Evans vibes) Lucas Littlejohn hasn't had any issues keeping his calendar full, registering a four-goal game as a Brooklin Lacrosse Club call-up at the Major Series Lacrosse level, and then scoring six in six for the Dragons during the recent NCBS National Championships in Utica, New York. But that's not why he's ranked as high as he is here today. Already turning heads as an 18-year-old while winning a Minto Cup in 2022, Littlejohn is a highly skilled goal scorer that is as tough as he is talented. Entering his sophomore season at Richmond this year, expect Littlejohn to play a more prominent role for the Spiders this the spring.   IL Indoor 02/20/25 - 10 Intriguing 2027 NLL Draft Prospects Lucas Littlejohn, RF, Whitby & Richmond Bringing a blend of skill, grit and leadership, Littlejohn is set to be one of the very best players in the OJLL this summer, according to his GM, Joel Watson. Littlejohn is already well established heading into his final summer of junior lacrosse: he was sixth in the league in 2024 with 42 goals, was Whitby's leading scorer a year ago and won a Minto Cup with the Warriors as a depth player on the 2022 team. On the college side, Littlejohn grabbed some attention for the Spiders and himself when his 4-goal, 6-point game led Richmond to an upset of state rival Virginia, earning Littlejohn IL's player of the week award last week.   11 Players to Watch in the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League Whitby Warriors: Lucas Littlejohn We start with a joint entry of two opponents from a wildly high-scoring game earlier this week. Littlejohn and Carreiro were already identified as the player to watch for their respective teams, then Tuesday night happened. Littlejohn entered 2025 with high expectations – Warriors GM Joel Watson told me before the season that he would be the best player in the league this year. When I reminded him that Willem Firth was returning, Watson pumped the brakes...lightly. It looks like Watson may have been on the mark. Littlejohn is already halfway to his 2024 total of 74 points and the Warriors have only played five games. They've won them all, including Tuesday's shootout with Brampton in which Whitby allowed 14 goals. And it wasn't particularly close, thanks in large part to a shift from Littlejohn. He had scored 4, 4 and 3 goals in their first three games. Tuesday, he scored just once, but he put up 10 assists. Five of those came on goals by Nolan Byrne, who was playing against his old team for the first time after being acquired from the Excelsiors in March. Byrne lit it up, pouring in 8 goals and 4 assists. Littlejohn and Byrne are now first and eighth, respectively, in the OJLL scoring race. They are the only two players among the top 20 who have played fewer than six games, and 11 members of the top 20 have played seven or eight.   08/16/25 The Lax Mag - The Top 50 Junior A Players: 2025 Edition 6. While he respectfully accepted the honour amongst a backdrop of Blaze players hugging one another after their Cup-clinching results, Malawsky was most definitely unsatisfied. As stupendously skilled, tremendously talented, and thoroughly tough as Malawsky is, the characteristic that makes him one of the most dangerous players in all of junior lacrosse today, is that he shares a compete level with his old man, Curt Malawsky. Just watching him take the ball from X, drive out to the front of the net and plow through anyone in his way to score, it was obvious that he's a chip off the old block. Yes, he has a lot of his dad Curt Malawsky's blend of toughness, skill and determination. You could just see how he would play in the box. Now, with years of Jr A experience including a Minto Cup championship, under his belt, Cody leaves no doubt that he is a prospect that some team will be very excited to add to their roster.   Lacrosse Culture Daily: Ten Players to Watch at the 2025 Minto Cup Cody Malawsky - Coquitlam Adanacs Malawsky is the best finisher in close quarters and in tight around the net in the country. Somehow, someway, Malawsky always finds ways to get underneath defenders and tip toe the crease showing both incredible dexterity and patience. Anyone who has played this sport, especially offensive players, will instantly tell you how high the degree of difficulty of that is. Add that to the fact he constantly fights his way between defenders to create scoring chances, and he presents a constant headache for opposing defenders. Another element of Malawsky's game that is almost unmatched is his intensity and sheer determination on loose balls, often extending possessions for the Adanacs. He is in many ways a carbon copy of his dad Curt both in playing style and how he approaches the game. If the Adanacs are to repeat and win a Minto out East, something the West hasn’t done since 1978, Malawsky will have to be a big part of it.   08/16/25 The Lax Mag - The Top 50 Junior A Players: 2025 Edition 1. Cody Malawsky Team: Coquitlam Adanacs/Langley Thunder Position: Forward College: University of Denver NLL Draft Eligible: 2027 We've gone back and forth dozens of times between putting Firth or Cody Malawsky #1 on this year list, Malawksy ultimately taking the top spot. Why? Well, since last year's Top 50, Malawsky had another powerful performance at the Minto, coming up huge in the Cup-clinching game versus the Northmen, where he netted four of Coquitlam's nine goals in that Game 2 win. For those that argue that Malawsky has a distinct advantage and has only succeeded due to playing on a significantly stacked Adanacs roster, well, pump yo breaks. Did you see what he did with Langley before being traded (again) to Coquitlam? The Thunder, who were on a 26-game losing streak earlier this year (it extended back to the 2023 season), snapped it and pushed themselves into legit playoff contention. That improved play lined up almost exactly to when Malawsky returned from Denver. That's no coincidence. Malawsky is a rare talent that will succeed on a struggling roster, but still stand out in a lineup loaded with some of the country's absolute best talent. He was incredible during the 2023 Minto in a losing effort, clutch AF at last year's national tournament, and based on his flawless track record, will give a repeat performance in St. Catharines shortly. Matthews doesn't tend to draw as much attention as some of his Northmen offensive teammates because he isn't a super flashy player. He is, however consistently productive playing strong fundamental lacrosse. With a November birthday, Matthews was still 17 when he scored 33 goals and 71 points in the 2022 OJLL season. The other reason he can get a little overlooked is that his 96 points this summer, while fifth in the OJLL overall, were also third on the team behind Koleton Marquis and Joey Spallina. All he did in between those two summers is score 71 goals in 18 Toronto Rock Elite League games (3.9 per game). Liam Matthews Team: Orangeville Northmen Position: Forward YOB: 2004 College: Penn State University NLL Draft Eligible: 2027   With Joey Spallina spitting out stupid-silly stat lines nightly and Trey Deere hogging the highlight reel with ridiculous goal after ridiculous goal, Liam Matthews kinda flies under the radar on the Orangeville roster. He shouldn't. The fact that Matthews still puts up the hefty point totals he does (only Sheehan, Thomson, Deere and Byrne scored more than him during the OJLL regular season), still sinks so many clutch snipes, and also does dirty work that often goes unnoticed, speaks volumes of the type of resilient and multi-skilled player he is. Stat lines can be vastly overrated in sports but in this case you have to mention the otherworldly 158 pts in 29 games (reg season + playoffs) he chalked up this summer. So filthy it sounds like fiction, Matthews is the one guy who can truly score from almost everywhere on the floor, as you saw many times in their OJLL final against Whitby. However that's not even his most dangerous attribute. His ability to draw a second defender over and dish the ball; creating space for teammates to execute within is what makes him exceptional. He reminds me of a guy by the name of Shawn Evans, who put on an all time performance winning a Minto Cup for his Peterborough Lakers in 2006. The type of poise and patience with which the Northmen striker plays with you can't teach and he slows the game down to a crawl. The hardest skillset to find and develop is an offensive quarterback who sees the floor. He will need to heal quickly from a nagging injury suffered in the OJLL Finals, but look for Matthews to control the pace and often the game for the Northmen as they look to get back to their second consecutive Minto Cup final.   08/16/25 The Lax Mag - The Top 50 Junior A Players: 2025 Edition 5. There is so much to like about Rawson's game and much of it goes under the radar. This is a player that possesses great feet and is always moving which not only allows for him to open up but others around him as well. There are very few guys that understand offence better than Rawson and that IQ makes him one of the best at running slip picks and darting to the net. Fully capable of feeding as well, you’ll often see Rawson going back door for quick sticks and opportunities around the net. Chuck Rawson Team: St. Catharines Athletics/Burlington Blaze Position: Forward College: Johns Hopkins University NLL Draft Eligible: 2027 The St. Catharines Athletics have taken a lot of flak for their auto entry at this year"s Minto as tournament hosts, especially after being iced in the opening round of the OJLL playoffs. With that said, this is a strong team. Very strong. From goaltending on out, the Athletics present sizeable problems for every team at this year's national title tournament, and not just due to being rested. Chuck Rawson is one of those obstacles, a key trade deadline addition to an offense that already sports the likes of Jameson Bucktooth, Lucas Nielsen, Zakary Toll, Colton Armitage and an additional offensive punch via their athletic press. Rawson has the team's highest goals (1.68), assists (2.16) and points (3.84) per game averages from the regular season (partly spent in Burlington too), and outside of Toll in playoff helpers (averaged a tiny .2 more than Rawson), ditto in the postseason. If any team sleeps on St. Catharines like many social media experts seem to have, Rawson will be the first to make them pay. He's back and looking to help Coquitlam pull off what has been the impossible for most going back to the 70s: win consecutive Cups (Coquitlam won it all last year) AND win in Ontario. Reed is coming off a very strong sophomore season with Canisius University, the middie scoring 24 times in 16 games, and netting the game winner in a third of the school's wins last spring. He also quietly had another impressive campaign with Coquitlam, stepping into an elevated roll after the likes of Jaxon Fridge, Connor Nock and Remo Schenato aged out. If we ran the numbers into our Clutch Kings calculator (like we do annually in the NLL), there is no doubt Roode would be near or right at the top of our money marksmen list. In addition to his three game winners during the season, Roode's name is often on the scoresheet next to game-tying and go-ahead goals too. Mix in the ability to play offence and some strong handles, Tye typically stands out when you watch an Athletics game. I'm fascinated to see what style of game the Athletics try to play here especially after being off for a full month. But the faster the game is and the more it's played between the rag lines, the more it will suit Steenhuis. In recent years we have seen players transition players thrive, like Ty English who was exceptional for Burlington in 2023 (won the MVP) as they raised the Minto and Jaxon Fridge for Coquitlam last year.
