Eight More Players Signed as They Arrive in St. Paul

November 29, 2006

The Swarm re-signed the following players to one-year contracts for the 2007 season:

2006 Stats

  • D - Michael Kilby - 15 GP 2g 2a 45 LB - (2005-06) Swarm - Assistant Captain - We start on defense with assistant captain #55 Michael “Meat” Kilby who is back to lay down the law for a third season with the Swarm. Not heavily pursued out of juniors, Kilby has proven himself a NLL-caliber player and has found a winter lacrosse-playing home in St. Paul.

  • F - Spencer Martin - Total 13 GP 8g 7a 32 LB / MN 9 GP 7g 6a 22 LB (2006) Swarm - Back for his second season with the Swarm, #15 Spencer Martin will again station himself down by the crease. The Swarm originally signed the lefthander with the flowing locks during the season last year after being released by San Jose. On April 9 2006, Martin scored the game-tying goal against San Jose to send the game to overtime where the Swarm eventually won 9-8.

  • D - Mark Miyashita - 10 GP 4g 10a 87 LB 80/183 FO 1 GWG (2006) Swarm - Every team needs a player to take face-offs and that is why the Swarm re-signed #39 Mark Miyashita. Miyashita will be back for a second season with the blue and gold and hopefully will be with the team the whole season. His face-offs improved greatly though the season and more is expected this season. Miyashita has already cemented his place in Swarm history on April 1st, 2006. That night the Swarm were down 9-2 to the Toronto Rock in the third period but scored seven straight to tie the game at nine. Miyashita scored the eighth straight goal and game winner to cap the greatest comeback in Minnesota Swarm history, a 10-9 win over the Rock. Chips and Guac were earned for everyone that night!!

  • D - Eric Pacey - 13 GP 2g 3a 45 LB - (2005-06) Swarm - Assistant Captain - #12 Eric Pacey is also back for a third season with the Swarm. The poker playing Pacey has also solidified a place with the Swarm after bouncing around with Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal early in his career.

  • F - Scott Stewart - Total 5 GP 3g 2a 13 LB / MN 1 GP 1g (2006) Swarm - The Swarm hopes that #48 Scott Stewart will show the promise he displayed when he first arrived to Minnesota last February. The Swarm traded Ryder Bateman for Stewart. In Stewart’s first game, he scored a goal before suffering a season-ending injury in the second quarter. With a healthy Stewart back, the Swarm expect the right-hander to give the Swarm extra scoring punch.

2006 NLL Entry Draft Picks Signed

  • G - Kevin Croswell - Round 3 Overall 31 - If the Swarm start the season now, they only have one goaltender under contract and that is rookie Kevin Croswell. Croswell was the second selection of the Swarm in the third round of this year’s draft. Watch out Matt Disher and Nick Patterson, Croswell is big at 6’4” 205 lbs. and looking for a starting goaltending spot in the NLL. Depending on where one looks on the internet, his last name is either Croswell with one “S” or Crosswell with two “S’s”. He grew up in Peterborough, Ontario but this past summer traveled out west to play Junior A with the Port Coquitlam Saints. He did very well there and played one game with the Langley Thunder in Senior A. In that game against the Patterson-led Maple Ridge Burrards, he got twelve minutes of play and stopped all nine shots directed at him. He wore #1 in Port Coquitlam but that belongs to Matt Disher, so expect a number like 31.

  • F - Hughie Johnson - Round 6 Overall 70 - Another new face for the Swarm is also a left-handed forward. He is Hughie Johnson. Johnson was the Swarm’s second pick in the sixth round in this year draft. He played junior A with the Six Nations Arrows and looks to be in the mold of Jamie Taylor, who passes to the open man first then shoots. According to Paul Stewart, the former director of scouting for the Swarm, Johnson has the potential but will need a lot of work to make the jump quickly to the NLL. He wore #66 in Six Nations so that could be it or #21.

  • F - Kevin Milkowski - Round 4 Oveall 44 - The first of the new faces for the Swarm is Kevin Milkowski. The Swarm’s fourth round draft pick is a left-handed forward who played one year of Junior A with the Victoria Shamrocks. It would appear that Milkowski is a shoot first, pass second type with 23 goals and only six assists. Maybe the Swarm need a little bit more of that. My bet is that Milkowski will wear #14.
