- 11/30/10 - Colin Achenbach Retires, At Least for the Time Being
Colin Achenbach |
The Minnesota Swarm annoucned the retirement of local lacrosse hero Colin Achenbach today. Born in
Burnsville, Minnesota, Colin was the first Native Minnesotan to play for the Swarm and in the NLL. Joining the team for the 2008 season, Colin
scored three goals and assisted on 11 in 19 games over his three years for the Swarm. At only 27, Colin has not yet filed retirement papers and
is still Swarm property as he was placed on the protected players list on November 16, so if Colin gets the itch again, the Swarm already have him
protected for two years.
Colin runs Homegrown Lacrosse with Daniel and Aron Lipkin in the Twin Cities and they have
become the premier youth lacrosse educators in the area with programs year round to teach lacrosse in camps and schools. With coaching gigs
at Eastview High School and St. Thomas, Colin will remain heavily involved in lacrosse in the area and his footprint in the local lax scene will
only grow greater in the years to come.
- 11/19/10 - Four In The Fold On Start of Training Camp
Nick Patterson |
Travis Hill |
Andrew Watt |
Matt Kelly |
Training Camp for the Minnesota Swarm began today with four players signing contracts.
Who's That Goaltender who Just Re-Signed for one more year? Patterson. Nick Patterson is back as the number
one goaltender entering camp. Patterson will be entering his seventh season with the Swarm and is the greatest goaltender in Swarm history.
Last year, Patty rebounded with a solid season with a 4-7 record, 12.29 GAA and a .748 save %. He saved a Swarm single season game record 59
shots versus Calgary on March 26, 2010.
Look for Patterson to be in an open battle for the number one spot in net at
camp with Kevin Croswell and
Drew Dickie says Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill in an email conversation within
the last week.
Travis Hill re-signs for two years as he
continues his comeback from a knee injury suffered in the summer of 2009 that
sidelined him for the 2010 season. The team's all-time leader in face offs, Hill has been with the Swarm since their
inaugural season. In 2008, Hill set a single season Swarm record with 86 penalty minutes. In 43 gamees in his Swarm and NLL career, Hill has 5
goals and 25 assists.
The wattage has been turned up as Andrew Watt re-signs for two years. The first of three first round draft picks
in the 2008 Entry Draft, Watt has 13 goals and 15 assists in 27 games for the Swarm as he is one of the team's biggest transition threats. He
tied for the lead in the NLL in 2009 with four shorthanded goals. Last year, Watt had 7 goals and 4 assists and scored a goal in the playoff
game versus Washington.
Matt Kelly signs for one year with the Swarm. Kelly was drafted by the Swarm in 2009 with the 54th pick in the draft
but hurt his knee in University of Virginia football training camp a month earlier as he tried out for the team after having a stellar four
year career on the UVA lacrosse team. A lefthanded defenseman, Kelly recovered this summer and played field lacrosse with the
LXM Pro Tour.
- 11/16/10 - 2010 - 11 Minnesota Swarm Training Camp Roster

36 players going to Swarm camp this year. Ryan Cousins, Travis Hill, Colin Achenbach, Nick Patterson, Andrew Watt and Mat Giles are still not
reported as signed yet but are expected in camp. This is not an official Swarm list but should be pretty close to accurate.
See the depth chart going into camp below also. See Roster and Depth Chart here.
- 11/16/10 - Thomson re-signs for two years. Boyle and Jackson return to the Swarm for an year each
Sean Thomson |
Brock Boyle |
Marc Jackson |
Sean Thomson re-signed with the Swarm for two years. Drafted ninth in the 2008 Entry Draft by the
Philadelphia Wings, Thomson was traded prior to the 2010 season to the Swarm where he scored a goal and an assist in the regular season opener
versus Calgary for his only action of the year. He will be battling for either the fourth or fifth righty forward spot and has face-off
abilities.
Brock Boyle signed up for a year with the Swarm. Boyle was an original member of the Swarm from 2005 - 2007 and
scored 30 goals and 21 assists in his time here. He is tenth all-time in Swarm history with 30 goals. He also scored two game winners for the Swarm in 2006.
Boyle also has a goal and assist in the first ever Swarm playoff game in 2006. After being traded to Boston on 2007 Entry Draft Day, Boyle spent time
with Chicago in 2008 and a game in 2009 with Rochester. He came to Swarm camp last year but was released in the last cut.
Marc Jackson signs up for one more year with the Swarm. The Swarm drafted Jackson in the 2007 Entry Draft with the 23rd
overall pick. He spent the 2008 & 2009 seasons on the Swarm practice squad. In the summer of 2009, Jackson suffered a major injury that caused him to miss
the entire 2010 NLL season but he returned to play in Six Nations this summer scoring a goal and four assists in eleven games.
- 11/10/10 - Crawford and Ross Assimiliated within the Swarm for Three More Years
Callum Crawford |
Kevin Ross |
The Minnesota Swarm signed both Callum Crawford and Kevin Ross to three-year contracts today.
Callum Crawford will be entering his second season with the Swarm after having the most successful offensive year of any
player in Swarm history. Last year, Crawford set Swarm single season records of 64 assists and 96 points. He also had 32 goals. Crawford was third in the
league in points and second in the league in assists. Crawford, who turned 26 this past Sunday, will be entering his sixth NLL season but this will be the
first sesason that Crawford will return with the same team he was on the year before.
Kevin Ross returns for his third season with the Swarm. Always shooting to get hot, then shooting to stay hot, Ross had 17 goals
and 25 assists last year for the Swarm. In his Swarm career, Ross has 37 goals and 48 assists.
