July 2006 Updates

June 2006 | Current Month | Other Months | August 2006

  • 07/22/06 - Ryan Ward Wins Gold with Team Canada

Ryan Ward won a gold medal for Team Canada today as they beat Team USA in the Gold Medal game of the 2006 World Field Lacrosse Championships in London, Ontario. In eight games, Ward had 3 goals and 4 assists. In the 15-10 win over Team USA, Ward had an assist.

Here are Ward's statistics for the tournament.

  • 07/14/06 - Hardly Missed You: The Swarm Reacquire Sullivan and Pacey

Jon Sullivan and Eric Pacey spent two days with New York before Swarm General Manager Marty O'Neill swung a deal to bring them back to Minnesota. In return, New York gets the Swarm's first and third round picks in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft. The Swarm will be without a first rounder for two straight years and will start in the second round on draft day.

  • 07/12/06 -Sullivan and Pacey taken by New York in Draft

New York selected Jon Sullivan 8th and Eric Pacey 20th in today's expansion draft. Michael Kilby was protected after New York took Sullivan. Sullivan finally played full time for the Swarm in 2006 as he played in all sixteen games with 2 goals, 5 assists and 61 loose balls. Pacey has been an assistant captain with the Swarm for the past two seasons and last year 2 goals, 3 assists and 45 loose balls in 13 games.

  • 07/11/06 - Who will be the Swarm's third head coach?

I have looked up some information on four possible and rumored head coaches to take over my favorite and your favorite team, the Minnesota Swarm. All four seem to have very impressive backgrounds and would do well with the Swarm. Take a look at the link above.

  • 07/11/06 - Mueller Becomes New York's Head Coach

The Swarm announced that Adam Mueller has left the organization to become the Head Coach of New York. Mueller was the Swarm's Head Coach in 2006 and led them to a fourth place finish in the East with an 8-8 record and the franchise's first playoff appearance. The playoffs did not go the way the team wanted with a 11-10 loss to the Buffalo Bandits in the first game but the team under Mueller definitely improved from 2005 to 2006. Mueller took over from Mike Simpson, who led the Swarm in the team's first season in 2005 to a 5-11 record. Mueller was an assistant on that team. Mueller has head coaching experience in the NLL already as he went 23-25 from 2002 to 2004 with the Philadelphia Wings. The move to New York will make commuting easier for Mueller as he lives in Pennsylvania.

Now the Swarm have to look for their third head coach in three years.

  • 07/11/06 - New York Officially Becomes Thirteenth Team In NLL

The NLL officially announced that New York will have a franchise for the 2007 season. The NLL returns to New York after the New York Saints folded after the 2003 season. They will play at least four games at Madison Square Garden but who knows about the other four. The announcement comes one day before New York and the Chicago Shamrox will participate in an expansion draft of unprotected NLL players.
